I needed to get out of town, so a month or so ago I planned a trip around my mom's birthday. I filled the week with several different photo shoots so in every town I visited (Virginia Beach, Richmond, DC, Harrisonburg) I got to visit old friends, make a couple new ones and create lots of new content to work with.

The first shoot of the week might be my favorite! Alaina's poses and ideas were creative and badass. I love getting the opportunity to collab with great people. You never really know what you're going to get when you reach out to new people.

While I've been focusing most of my business on portrait photography, I truly got started taking pictures at these youth events and it has shaped my style in unique ways. I feel fulfilled knowing that these pictures help preserve memories for the hundreds of participants. Every event I learn something new and I feel like my work gets better.

At the beginning of the sermon at this event, the chaplain talked about how these events feel like a sort of home in the wilderness. These events are valuable reminder to me about compassion and community even though I no longer believe.

I tried to use my time in Lynchburg for church camp creatively by meeting up with someone I'd been following on Instagram for a while. 2018 is p cool.

I've been sharing this pinterest board of vaporwave / 90s vibes with all the people I've been shooting with lately. They've all interpreted the idea uniquely and I love how this allows me to loosely control the aesthetic of all my portraits overall without constraining my models to anything that's not them.

I really love the rustic downtown Lynchburg area. I'm gonna have to make a point of setting up some more creative shoots there this summer.

It's been about a year since I've been able to attend an event but I was very glad to be back on this mountain this past weekend taking pictures. For the sake of doing something a little different, here's a selection of my favorite photos mostly in black and white. I've also included shots where I experimented with the prism.
